About type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is a long-term condition in which the body does not use insulin well, so blood sugar (glucose) rises. Over time, high blood sugar can damage the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. India has one of the largest numbers of people living with diabetes in the world, and many people do not know they have it.
Risk rises with excess weight (especially around the waist), low physical activity, family history, age and, for some, a history of diabetes in pregnancy.
Lifestyle matters
The World Health Organization notes that a healthy diet, regular physical activity, a healthy body weight and avoiding tobacco can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes, and these same habits are central to managing it. That is where natural care can help, always alongside the treatment and monitoring your doctor prescribes.
How a lifestyle plan may help
- Diet therapy. Balanced Indian meals with more vegetables, pulses and whole grains, fewer refined carbohydrates and sugary drinks, sensible portions and regular meal times. See Naturopathy & Lifestyle Disorders.
- Activity. Brisk walking and yoga, with a short walk after meals. See Yoga Therapies.
- Weight care. Even modest weight loss can help if you are overweight. See Weight Management.
- Sleep and stress care. Poor sleep and stress can affect blood sugar.
- Foot care awareness. Daily checks of the feet, and gentle therapies only when sensation and skin are healthy.
What the research says
Studies suggest yoga may help improve blood-sugar control in type 2 diabetes for some people, alongside medical care, but study quality varies. Diet, physical activity and weight loss have strong evidence for preventing and managing type 2 diabetes. Natural care at Arogyam Sutra is complementary. Please keep seeing your doctor, keep taking prescribed medicines, and tell the clinic about every medicine and supplement you take.

Frequently asked questions
Can naturopathy cure diabetes?
No. The clinic does not claim to cure diabetes. Lifestyle care can support healthy blood sugar alongside your doctor's treatment, and any change to medicines must be made by your doctor.
Can I fast if I have diabetes?
Fasting can be risky if you take insulin or certain diabetes tablets. Please discuss it with your doctor first; the clinic will not suggest fasting without that.
Which yoga is good for diabetes?
A regular, moderate practice of postures, breathing and relaxation, together with walking, is a common approach. Your teacher will adapt it to your fitness, eyes, feet and heart health.
Are herbal remedies safe with diabetes medicines?
Some herbs can lower blood sugar or interact with medicines. Please tell your doctor and the clinic about anything you take.
